She received her undergraduate degree (Animal Science) from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Shortly after the completion of her undergraduate studies, she pursued a graduate degree in animal health sciences. Upon completing her M.S., she returned to commence her doctoral studies in energy and environmental systems. Shortly after she finished her doctoral studies, she joined the Department of Internal Medicine at University of Nebraska Medical Center as a post-doctoral research associate to further study the impact of environmental pollutants on the respiratory system.
